Day 179
Photobucket
Working on my lab report. My unknown bacteria turned out to be Micrococcus luteus. This sheet lists the bacteria, and the expected results from each test we performed on it.

I gave my penguin presentation to the class yesterday. Overall it went very well. I had some minor technical difficulties, but nothing that I couldn't overcome. Everyone enjoyed the little video I took of them (that I need to post...), and I was the only one so far that had a video, so that was a good move I think. I got an A on the presentation, so I was really happy about that. The biggest point deduction I got from the presentation was because I talked too fast. God, I hate that. That is my biggest problem when it comes to presentations. I talk fast normally. Add nerves to it, and I speed talk. I'm aware of it, and consciously try to slow it down, but it never works out for me. *sigh* Oh, well. I did well in spite of that. :)

Am still feeling pretty crappy. I had to work today, and I was exhausted by the end of my shift. I really hope this passes soon. My nose is raw from the wiping. :(

It's sounding more and more like the strike is going to happen at work. The contract officially ends on Saturday, so I should know by the 10pm news that night. It's all anyone is talking about at work. There are union reps there constantly. A lot of people are turning in temporary work applications to fill our places in case we do strike. It's very unsettling.

I'm sensing another late night tonight. I desperately need to start working on this paper. It's due tomorrow morning, and I haven't started typing it yet. I have all of the research done, and have everything planned out as to what I want to write, I just haven't done it yet. I'm hoping it won't take me too long...

*hugs* to the flist. <3

Kleenex Puffs with lotion and Vicks VapoRub. They are AWESOME. Where have these tissues been all of my life? They are super soft and have the added bonus of Vicks to clear my sinuses. I LOVE them.

Here. Have a bonus picture... )

I've decided that I'm tired of sneezing. Sneezing sucks.

In non-allergy related news, I have finished my penguin presentation that I'm giving to the class tomorrow. I am so damn proud of it too. It's a Powerpoint presentation, and it's beautiful. And is complete with the penguin pictures I took and a couple of video clips. And now I'm finally getting to work on my Microbiology paper. Plus, I'm doing laundry. I'm so productive. ;)

We went to my parents' house yesterday to see the baby foxes. Sadly, they didn't come out. :( I did get to see some cool fog though. We'll go back up soon to see if we can see the babies.

Today is going to be completely devoted to homework. I didn't get the homework done that I wanted to yesterday because I was playing around with my Dreamwidth account most of the day. Fail. So, today I have to be good. I have to get my powerpoint presentation done, and get most of the way done with my lab report. I'm not feeling too bad today. Congested, but the sore throat is gone. I'm pretty sure it's allergies, which sucks, but oh well.

And now for a bit of randomness: I just saw two squirrels mating outside of my window. I don't think I've ever seen that before...

I have started working with my Dreamwidth account. I successfully imported all of my entries and comments! :) I wish I could customize my layout more, but that will come, I suppose. I also started a Project 365 community for people to post in. If you are doing the project, or would like to start, and want somewhere to post, check it out!

Still not feeling all that great, but it could be worse. I'm a bit congested and have a sore throat. Oh, well. Am now off to eat something and work on homework. Joy!

I have a sore throat today. I'm really hoping I'm not getting sick. =/

So, I may be going on strike at work. Fail. I had to join the union when I was hired by Safeway and there is a contract that is agreed upon by the union and Safeway that needs to be renewed every four years. Well, the current contract expires on May 9th. The union and Safeway have been bargaining about things they want changed in the current contract for weeks now, and they haven't agreed on much of anything. If they still don't come to an agreement by May 9th, it's very possible that everyone who is a member of the union will go on strike. Which means no money for me until the strike is over. Of course, it also means time off of work, but... *sigh* I can cross the picket line if I want to, but I've heard bad stories of insane supporters of the union vandalizing the property of the people who do cross, and other worse things. I don't know how much of that is true, but I'm not sure I want to risk it. Safeway is accepting applications for temporary workers just in case the strike does happen, and people that have been working for the company for a while can't remember them being that aggressive before. I'm nervous about it. So, it's possible that I may be forced out of my job in 8 days. And if we do strike, I have no idea how long it will last. Kind of scary.

We're going to my parents house tomorrow for dinner. I'm hoping to see baby foxes! =D

Patches is currently laying in my lap and kneading my leg. Which means she is digging her claws in to my skin once every second, alternating paws. It's so damn cute, but my god, it hurts. Just thought you should know.

I have finished my two exams of the week. I already got the exam I took on Monday back, and I got a B. So, I'm happy about that. I'm hoping to get the exam I took yesterday back on Monday. I have to give a presentation on my penguins (yes, they are mine XD) on Monday, and turn in my massive lab report in microbiology on Wednesday. We were given unknown bacteria at the beginning of the semester, and all semester of lab has been devoted to doing a bunch of tests to determine the genus and species of our given bacteria. We have to write up all of our tests, the results, and what our bacteria is based on these tests. It will likely take me all of Sunday to do. But, I took the day off, so this is good. All of this while dealing with the busyness of work since it's Mother's Day week. Then finals the next week. Then summer. Whoo. I can do it, I can do it, I can do it...

I also now have a Dreamwidth. =D Same username, amy_119. I haven't posted anything yet, but just so everyone knows and in case anyone would like to stalk me in more than one place. :)

One of the tests we did in Microbiology. We are testing the effectiveness of different types of disinfectants on different types of bacteria. I believe this plate is streaked with E. coli.

Day 174

I came home and immediately put on my glasses. I got some bouquets in at work that I'm allergic to. Whatever the filler is in those bouquets does not agree with me. I opened the box and immediately started sneezing. Ever since, my eyes have been killing me. So, out with the contacts and on with the glasses. Then on to the computer to surf LJ and chat. :)

*Mom and I watching a preview for South Park where they mention "queefing"*

Mom: What's a queef?
Me: ... That would be an emission of air from the vagina. lol
Mom: Oh. I thought that was a pussy fart.
Me: They are synonyms.
Mom, Dad and me: lololol
Sister: OMG

God, how epic is that? XD Just one of the many reasons why I love my family.

A longer update

I've somehow managed to not do a real update in over a week again. So, here's an update- Project 365 style.

Clicky )

Also, [livejournal.com profile] shutterbug_12 is coming to visit in early June! She'll be here for five days. =D While she is here, we are going to hike to the summit of Pike's Peak. It's a fourteener. It's going to be insane. It's the first fourteener for both of us, so it will be an amazing accomplishment. Barr Trail, which is the trail that goes to the top, is nontechnical, but very long. It's 12.6 miles to the summit. We will have to leave my house by 3:30am at the latest to get to Pike's Peak right before sunrise. We'll reach the summit by early afternoon, then start heading down before the afternoon thunderstorms that frequently hit Colorado. This is important because the summit is above treeline, so if a thunderstorm hits, we are the tallest things out there. Not very safe. Then, we will take the 12.6 mile hike back down the mountain. We will likely use every bit of sunshine we have that day just to make it up and back. It's going to be amazing, but exhausting. So, as a result, I'm getting myself in to shape. lol. In my current condition, I would probably die. XD I'm exercising to increase my endurance, and eating healthier to drop a few pounds so it won't be a grueling experience for me. ;) I'm so excited! It's going to be amazing.

I think that's about it for me. Consider yourselves updated. School is still crazy, but will be over in three weeks. I have two tests this week, one test and a huge lab report due next week, then finals. Yikes.

Off to eat lunch with a friend. :) *hugs*

Weatherman on the news last night: "There will be some snow in the high country, but down here in the metro area we'll just see some rain. You may see a big, wet snowflake every now and then, but there's no way it will stick."

My mom just sent me this adorable link: Two penguins go through security at Denver International Airport. <333

I finished writing my penguin report last night. I stayed up until 1:00 in the morning, but I got it done. *whew* Now I need to put together my presentation and write my lab report for my other class. I'll write a real update tonight. For now, I'm off to class.

Sorry I haven't updated in a while. My life has been a bit busy. ;) I've still been reading everything though.

School has reached that point in the semester where things start to spiral out of control. I have major stuff due in every class and a bunch of tests that the profs squeeze in right before finals. I've just been trying to keep up with all of that. So far, I'm doing all right. I have a presentation tomorrow, two lab reports due in two weeks (one in my Microbiology class that we've been working on all semester, where we have to identify an unknown bacteria that we were given in lab, and another one in my Animal Behavior class about the penguins. Both worth a lot of our grade.) Then the week after that, I have to present my penguin project to the class. I had two tests last week, and two tests in two weeks. Busy! Just trying to keep my head above water, heh.

Work has been busy too. Last week, I worked 40 hours, which I hate to do during school. But, it was Easter week, so it was necessary. Easter is the third biggest floral holiday of the year, behind Valentine's Day and Mother's Day. I did well though. I had two huge loads come in for the week, and sold through almost all of my backstock. My load for the new week came in on Monday, and that's pretty much all the stock we had. I'm glad because that means I didn't over-order. Yay. =D Now work will be really slow until Mother's Day hits. Which is also when prom hits for a lot of the surrounding high schools. So, I have a couple weeks of sanity. :)

On Easter sunday, we all went over to my aunt and uncle's house for a delicious ham dinner. Ham, mashed potatoes, corn, rolls, fruit salad, and little mini blueberry and cherry cheesecakes for dessert. It was so good. :)

My dad has been really sick for the last week or so. My parents have Kaiser insurance, so when he was feeling really crappy last week, they went to the Kaiser doctor to get him checked out. Apparently you have to have your symptoms for seven days before they will treat you with any medication. They gave him a list of symptoms that he should be on the look out for, and if he had any of those symptoms before the seven days were up, he needed to get medical help immediately. Here's the kicker: he had all of the symptoms on the list when he first went in. How screwed up is that? The next day, he was feeling even worse, so my mom took him to an urgent care clinic. Turns out he had ear infections in both ears, a sinus infection, and a fluid build-up in his lungs, which was getting close to pneumonia. They told him that if he had waited to get medical attention for another couple of days, like Kaiser wanted, he would likely be in the hospital with pneumonia. They gave him a bunch of medication, but he still isn't doing much better. I'm hoping he'll go in for a chest x-ray soon, to make sure he doesn't have pneumonia.

I pooled together all of my bday money and bought an iPod Touch! :) It's so cool. I love it. I can access the internet and everything on it. So, I can do things like check my email, chat, and surf LJ in class, without my computer. lol. Not that I would. Just saying that I could. XD

[livejournal.com profile] shutterbug_12 is going to come to visit! Sometime in early June, we think. I'm so excited! The last time we met was for a really short weekend when she came to Colorado for work, so now we can actually hang out for more than just a day and a half. And I get to play the role of the Denver tour guide, which is always fun. :)

Edit: Oh, I forgot to mention. Yesterday I had to drive another coworker to the hospital for stitches. I'm beginning to think I'm cursed or something, ha. This is the second person who has been working with me that I've driven to the hospital for stitches. I got in a pallet of these huge terracotta pots. There were 15 pots on this pallet, and the pallet weighed almost 1,000 pounds. So, he said he would help me unload them since I'm not strong enough to do it on my own. The pots were packaged in cardboard with plastic straps around them. He went to pick one up by the strap, and the strap snapped, and the pot broke on the ground. When the pot fell, it broke into a bunch of pieces, and one of the pieces flew up and cut him on his right thumb knuckle. It cut a little blood vessel and was bleeding all over the place. So, once again, I wrapped him up and drove him to the hospital. He got three stitches. Craziness. Pretty soon no one is going to want to help me for fear of their personal safety. XD

And, that's about it for me. Now here's my Project 365 Catch-up for the past two weeks:

I actually got up early so I could post this. XD Now I'm going to make myself some eggs and toast, then off to school. Have a good day/night! :)

Last night I got bday wishes on my answering machine from my father and little brother. They live in South Dakota, so I see them about once a year. It was a nice little surprise. This is the message they left. I especially like the song. :)

Bday graphics )

I love that every one of those graphics are U2 graphics. Hee! I love you guys.

I had a pretty good day. I had to go to school all day, but my microbiology lecture was easy and the lab got out a full hour and a half early. It was great. My animal behavior class had a trip to the zoo today, and I went about an hour early to do some of my penguin observations before class. Then we went and observed the orangutans, which was really fun. The only bad thing is that it started snowing while we were at the zoo. Not fun to be outside. My parents ended up hanging out at our house for about 4 hours tonight, and had dinner with us, because the snow was so bad that they couldn't make it up the mountain to their house. They did finally make it home, after the snow let up. Jen bought me flowers and Drumsticks. lol. Great way to my heart, right there. And that was the day! =D

Thanks again for all the wishes, guys. It's so nice to have such a great, supportive group of friends. <33

Annnd, my penguins! :)
